Nose Picking and Consuming: A Natural Medicine!

We all may find this strange and filthy, but the fact is that nose picking has been everyone’s job, be it either in private or in public. I would firmly request our readers to please keep the toast down for a minute before we proceed with this article. Let’s start with the term Mucophagy (literally means mucus-eating, also referred as picking one’s nose and eating it) is the consumption of the nasal mucus, and other detritus obtained from nose-picking and extracting nasal mucus with one’s finger (Rhinotillexis). In fact, a particular German doctor suggests not only to always cleaning your nose with your own finger(s), but also pulling pieces of mucus out of your nose and consuming it for good health. The mucus lines lead to the nose’s delicate innards, and create a surface which is like flypaper for bacteria and other particles. Once this stuff becomes mired, the loaded mucus is slowly escorted out by tiny hairs called Cilia which sweep out the undesirables and this mucus contains some good as well as bad bacteria’s.

Recently a study by a lung specialist from Austria, Dr. Friedrich Bischinger claimed in some medical journals that eating your own nose mucus could act as a natural miracle drug in boosting our immune system. Modern scientific research suggests that Mucophagy seems to be a natural and even healthy activity, which exposes the digestive system to bacteria accumulated in the mucus, thereby helping to strengthen the overall immune system. Also Dr. Friedrich Bischinger, would have us believe that people who pick their noses with their fingers are healthier, happier, and more in tune with their bodies. He says picking your nose and eating it is healthy for two reasons: First is “With the finger you can get to places you just can’t reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner.” And second “Eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body’s immune system. The nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria is collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.” He pointed out that children happily pick their noses, yet by the time they have become adults they have stopped under pressure from a society that has branded it disgusting and anti-social.

So to conclude it shows us that nose picking and consuming is similar to what we have in a probiotic drink. But above all to prove it to be acceptable tests of mucus/booger eating should be carried on a sample of individuals for a period of time, only then can a universally acceptable conclusion can be drawn as there are dual chances that your mucus can contain an organism that can give you a viral or bacterial infection when the bacteria cannot be recognised by the body, but ones that can be recognised by the body they are helpful and create antibodies against various germs without making you sick.

The Best Sinusitis Nose Treatments

Sinusitis, the condition of having an active sinus infection not only manifests its symptoms in your sinuses, it also makes your nasal feel miserable. In fact, it may have been your nose that started your whole infection to start with. Don’t despair, there are things you can do to make your nasal area feel better and start to heal your sinuses too. Here are some of the best sinusitis nose treatments you can use.

All of these treatments are easy to do. You don’t need anything special but there are some things you can get that will make it easier to apply the remedies. The only real ingredients you need are water and salt.

When sinusitis flares up it is usually because of a blockage. The blockage usually occurs in the nasal area. The sinuses connect to the nose and the normal drainage route from the sinuses is into the nose then the throat and into the stomach. That is how your body is supposed to work.

When your nasal passages get blocked and swollen they can easily block the small openings that lead to the sinuses. Once that happens the sinuses can’t drain. Fluids back up and fill the sinuses. Bacteria that would normally drain away now is trapped and begins to multiply. Once that occurs you have a sinus infection.

In order to begin the process of reversing this situation you need to open the nasal passages and eliminate the blockages. That’s what these treatments are all about.

The first thing you can do is to use steam to treat your nose. The easiest way to do that is to just go into the bathroom, close the door and run a hot shower or bath and breath in the steam. Another way to accomplish this is to hold your head over a steaming pot of water. Make sure you take the pot off the heat first.

You can cover your head and the pot with a towel to isolate the steam and make this treatment more effective. Be careful that you don’t get too close to the steam and make sure some cool air can get in. It is possible to scald your nose or throat if you breath in only hot steam and no cooler air. Use caution.

The last and slightly more difficult thing you can do is a complete irrigation of your sinusitis nose. There are a number of ways you can do this. Nasal irrigation machines are available for purchase but do cost between 100 and 200 dollars. A less expensive alternative is a neti pot. This is a device that you can purchase at a health equipment store or online or at a yoga store. It costs between 15 and 25 dollars.

The procedure is simple enough. You pour 4 to 8 ounces of a saltwater solution into one nostril and let it drain out the other nostril. You repeat the procedure with the other nostril. This will thoroughly clean out your nasal passages. You should immediately be able to breathe better and it should open the blocked areas.

Your nasal areas and your sinuses are part of your overall respiratory system. If your nose has problems so do your sinuses. If you use these treatments on your sinusitis nose, you should start to get some relief within minutes. Continue to use this therapy and it should speed your overall recovery.
